PETALING JAYA: Sime Darby FC were left to rue their missed chances after edging Super League side Johor FC 3-2 in the first leg of the FA Cup quarter-final at the Selayang Stadium.
Amirul Azmi (sixth minute) and Razali Umar Kandasamy (35th) put Premier League outfit Sime Darby FC 2-0 up before Johor FC hit back to reduce the deficit through Arthuro Bernhardt six minutes later.
Patrick Wleh restored Sime Darby FC’s two-goal lead in the 68th minute but Johor FC scoring machine Bernhardt found the target for a second time – his ninth goal of the season – in the 79th minute.
Sime Darby FC coach Ismail Zakaria was disappointed with his team’s performance, saying “we should have won by a more convincing margin”.
“It’s a pity we didn’t take our chances well. We should have won by a two-goal margin at least,” said Ismail.
“We still have a lot of work to do for the return-leg in Pasir Gudang on Tuesday. Johor FC only need a one-goal win on their homeground to pip us on the away-goal rule.”
