Olympic final round qualifying draw on Thursday

Kuala Lumpur: Twelve teams will come out of the pots on Thursday, July 7, 2011, in the draw for the third and final round of qualifying for the Men's Olympic Football Tournament London 2012.

By the end of the draw, which starts at 1500 hours and will be streamed live on www.the-afc.com, the teams would have been divided into three groups of four teams each.


The 12 ranked teams are: 1. Korea Republic, 2. Australia, 3. Japan (all in pot 1), 4. Iraq, 5. Bahrain, 6. Qatar (all in pot 2), 7. Saudi Arabia, 8. Syria, 9. Uzbekistan (all in pot 3), 10. Oman, 11. UAE, and 12. Malaysia (all in pot 4).

The teams will play a league format (21 September-14 March) according to which each team in the group shall play two matches (home and away) against every other team. The winners of each group will qualify for the London Olympics while the runners-up of the three groups will qualify for the play-off after clashing at a centralised venue from 25 to 29 March, with one going on to meet an African representative a playoff for a berth at London 2012.

The teams have been ranked on the basis of the Asian qualifiers and Final Round of the Men's Olympic Football Tournament Beijing 2008 and the teams which failed to qualify for the third round have been removed from the list.

The match days for final round are: Match Day 1-21 September 2011 (Wednesday), Match Day 2- 23 November 2011 (Wednesday), Match Day 3-27 November 2011 (Sunday), Match Day 4-5 February 2012 (Sunday), Match Day 5-22 February 2012 (Wednesday), Match Day 6-14 March 2012 (Wednesday)
