TERENGGANU went top of the Super League for the first time this season after a second-half Abdul Hadi Yahya goal secured a 1-0 win over Felda United in Kuala Terengganu yesterday.
Although they could be knocked off the top today by either Selangor or Perak, Terengganu's fourth straight league win at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium keeps them firmly in the title race.
They did not look like title contenders in the first half though and were indebted to national goalkeeper Sharbinee Allawee Ramli for keeping them in the game with a string of saves.
Sharbinee had to be alert to prevent Felda from taking the lead in the eighth minute through Zamri Chin, who did not know too much about a pull-back by Juzaili Samion which hit his heel and trickled goalwards.
Zamri had an even better chance to score two minutes later only to be denied by the post when he pounced on a rebound after Sharbinee blocked Azrul Ahmad's swerving long-range shot.
Terengganu escaped again in the 29th minute when Rashid Mahmud's header off a corner came back off the crossbar as Sharbinee endured a busy first half when he palmed away Syazwan Zainon's curling effor three minutes later.
Felda United goalkeeper Hamsani Ahmad was finally forced into a save when he denied Manaf Mamat's shot from outside the box in the 39th minute before Felda had a Liew Kit Kong strike ruled out on the stroke of half-time as teammate Azrul was deemed in an offside position in the build up.
Terengganu emerged from the break with more purpose and were duly rewarded when Hadi grabbed the winner in the 62nd minute.
Receiving a pass from Joseph Kalang Tie with his back to goal, Hadi turned and unleashed a shot from outside the box which found the top-corner for his seventh league goal.-- ZAINUDDIN MUHAMMAD
