KUALA LUMPUR have not enjoyed much success against Pahang in recent years but the city side face their bogey team in buoyant mood after ending a six-match winless run in the Super League.
Tuesday's 1-0 win over Negri Sembilan in Paroi lifted KL into ninth place on 10 points, trailing Pahang only on goals scored ahead of today's clash at the KLFA Stadium in Cheras.
Pahang however will enjoy a psychological advantage after eliminating KL from the FA Cup last month 2-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.
But KL coach Razip Ismail is hoping his team can carry on from where they left off in Paroi and notch a victory over Dollah Salleh's team for the first time since 2002.
"The morale in the team is good after the win against Negri and we must carry on the hard work from there. Our record against Pahang is not good and we lost to them in the FA Cup but that is in the past.
"Pahang are very close to us in the table and it's time to turn things around and look for the three points. But I'm more concerned about my team's performance rather than our opponents' and whoever we meet now does not matter.
"We are only thinking about getting a win," said Razip yesterday.
KL welcome back defender Ahmad Azlan Zainal and winger Ahmad Hazwan Bakri from suspension although defenders Farid Ramli and Farouk Hashim and goalkeeper Remezey Che Ros are injured. Playmaker Azwan Malek is out for the season due to a severe ligament tear.
Hazwan scored twice for KL's President's Cup team in a 4-0 win over SDM Navy in Bertam on Thursday but Razip is uncertain of using the youngster against Pahang.
"I will see how he does in training before deciding on anything," added Razip.
