Goals finally begin to flow for Kuala Lumpur

HAVING struggled to score all season, Kuala Lumpur surprised their coach by scoring three goals in a span of four minutes in a 3-1 win over Kuala Terengganu T-Team in Cheras on Saturday.

All the KL goals arrived within 15 minutes of the start of the match to leave not just the visitors shell-shocked but the home bench as well.

It was the first time KL had scored more than a goal in a Super League match dating back to their 2-1 win over Negri Sembilan on May 22 last year -- a run spanning 20 matches.

A frequent lament of coach Razip Ismail was his forwards' lack of sharpness in front of goal but when Ahmad Hazwan Bakri's brace in the 13th and 14th minutes quickly followed See Kok Luen's 11th minute opener, that issue was quickly put to rest.

"We could easily have scored four or five goals as Kok Luen missed two good chances early in the game. But I'm happy we won and managed to score a few goals this time.

"Hopefully, we can keep this going as we are still too close to the bottom," said Razip after watching KL move two rungs up to ninth in the table after only their third Super League win.

While T-Team reduced the arrears in the 21st minute through Indra Putra Mahayuddin, KL defended well and were content to soak up the pressure in the second half.

Hazwan, who is usually deployed on the left wing, proved Razip's decision to play him upfront was a masterstroke as the 19-year-old scored his first two goals of the season and put himself in the frame for a national call up for the Olympic qualifiers against Lebanon on June.

So effective was Hazwan that T-Team coach Yunos Aliff was prompted into immediate action by replacing centre-back Norfazly Alias in the 25th minute after the KL youngster ran rings around the visitors' defence.

"Hazwan is young and can still improve, especially when using his right foot. We'll see what happens next (of the call up)," added Razip
